ContactsSync Makes G1 Users’ Lives Easier

The G1 phone is one of the most anticipated devices since the iPhone official release. One of the reasons for this is that it is the first phone empowered by Android, a complete, open mobile phone software stack. Android is the creation of Google, along with the Open Handset Alliance. Numerous experts have cited Android as a huge step forward toward openness in software, as this is the first stack open to third-party applications.

However, one of the major user challenges connected with the new G1 phone was the lack of integration with some mainstream business applications, including Microsoft Exchange.

The good news is our team decided to use Android's openness as an opportunity to make the new phone owners' lives easier. We have extensive knowledge and experience in incorporating e-mail into project management, and we understand the importance of maximizing the collaborative capabilities across as many devices as possible.

We joined our efforts with Intermedia, the leading provider of collaboration and productivity SaaS solutions, and introduced a new application allowing users to easily download all of their Exchange contacts to their G1 phone. Our aim was and will remain to save you time and increase your productivity. ContactsSync is another step in this direction. The application is absolutely free, so you are welcome to download and enjoy it right now!

You can also read more about ContactsSync.
Drag-and-Drop Folders to Quickly Move Them

In the best Wrike traditions, we keep bringing the convenience of using your favorite desktop software to the Web. A couple of weeks ago, we introduced a right-click context menu for the folders tree. Now we are introducing drag-and-drop for folders.

1) To move a folder:

Left-click on the folder, hold the mouse button and pull the folder to the place where you want to see it.

2) To include a subfolder in several folders: hold CTRL.

If you want one subfolder to be included in many folders, hold the “ctrl” key while doing the previous operation. The subfolder will stay where it was before the drag-and-drop, and it also will be included in the new place where you dropped it.

Tip to remember: When you put something in a shared folder, it automatically becomes shared as well. For example, if you move a project folder to a folder shared with your client, your client will see the project folder and underlying tasks.
International Date Format Support

We have a lot of customers in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia, and our own team is also quite diverse. Since we launched in States, we started with a U.S. date format for creating tasks via email, but we always got a lot of requests to make it international. As you know, we are always keen to implement your requests. Wrike now supports the international date format where the day goes first and the month goes second, like 31/12/2008.

By default, the date format is set as MM/DD/YYYY. However, account administrators can easily edit the setting to DD/MM/YYYY for all users in their accounts. The administrator needs to sign in to Wrike, go to “Account”->“Account Management,” choose the format that suits his or her team best (1) and click the “Update” button (2). The changes affect all users in the account.

If two different customers of Wrike with different date settings collaborate on a task via e-mail, the date format of the task author takes prevalence in Wrike.

By the way, in the next six months we will have a limited number (15) of country reseller openings. If you know somebody who deserves to become a local Wrike reseller, drop us a note.
Customize Working Days

The brilliance of Wrike is in its ability to help people manage a wide range of activities. Some Wrike users work 24/7 to get their projects delivered as soon as possible. Others work from 9 to 5 on business days only. So that every team can plan its projects in accordance with its work schedule, we have introduced customization of working days.

If you want to change the Monday to Friday schedule for your account, then the administrator needs to sign in, go to “Account”->“Account Management,” change working days (1) and hit the “Update” button (2). The settings are effective for all users in the account and can be set by the account administrator. The changes will affect all tasks created in the future by all users in the account. To avoid potential confusion, existing tasks will not be automatically rescheduled. When you change an existing task, the new settings will come into effect.

Collaborative Project Planning Helps Avoid Micromanagement

Micromanagement can be a serious problem for a person who is in charge of a project or a whole business. It can hamper the development of a company and prevent managers from taking advantage of the creative initiatives of their teams.

Engagement of collaborative planning can help with this problem and allow you to discover the full potential of the team. At the same time, it’s important for the manager to keep control of the team’s actions and to guide them. Only with the combination of bottom-up collaboration and top-down leadership can the business be truly successful. LearnItFirst.com, a fast developing online IT training company, found a way to create and maintain such a combination. Read the story, told by Scott Whigham, the founder of LearnItFirst.com, and find out what helped him to make the business more productive.
Simplified Way to Manage Folders

Today, we are glad to tell you about the simplified the way to create, rename and delete folders in your Wrike workspace. All these actions can be made easily with the help of a right-click in the left pane of the workspace. Let me describe it in detail.

1) To create a folder, right-click on the folder in which you want to create a new folder and choose the “Add folder” option. Enter the folder name and hit the “Enter” key. That is easy.

2) To rename a folder, right-click on the folder and choose the “Rename folder” option. Edit the folder name and click off the field.

3) To remove a folder, right-click on the folder and choose the “Delete folder” option.

If you want to share a folder, attach a file or create a folder description, you can do it by clicking on the "Edit folder" link in the right pane of the workspace and editing the folder properties.

The next step planned to improve the convenience of working with folders in Wrike is drag-and-drop for folders. We are currently working on a feature that will allow you to easily move folders within the hierarchy.

VOCO Creative is Overcoming Challenges of Organizing a 100% Virtual Office

What are the advantages of a 100% virtual office? First, it’s inexpensive. You don’t have to pay for rent. Second, it gives people from different locations an opportunity to work together easily. Third, you can access your business data 24/7 from any computer.

Yet, to be truly productive, a virtual office has to be well-organized. This can be hard to achieve when you get heaps of e-mails every day, which ruin your productivity. This is the kind of problem many small and midsize companies that are trying to run 100% virtual offices face nowadays. One of these companies was an Internet marketing firm, VOCO Creative. Its employees were struggling through their inboxes without having a sense of priorities or action items. This influenced the team’s productivity a great deal. However, VOCO Creative managed to find a solution with Wrike.

Read the story about VOCO Creative’s virtual office and find out how they keep it efficient.
